This is an interesting pastel on paper by noted artist Benoit Gilsoul, a Belgian, who is super famous for his abstract stained glass window designs around the world.   It is not signed by notated on the back, "Long Island, and dated 11/8/93"  It is untitled like most pieces of art but may be another biomorphic appearing piece, like a microscopic rotifer or a landscape of Long Island like the back suggests perhaps.  The piece is unframed and probably was never framed and the dimensions are about 12"x18".   Many pieces he did on paper are biomorphic, which simply means they show some form or part of life forms.   His stain glass pieces almost always stated something, perhaps often a religious theme as his art is in many modern churches and synagogues. For these pieces I recommend a Do It Yourself framing project with a company I have done a few pieces with called Frame It Easy.  You take measurements, call them into the company after you pick the frame and color mat(if desired) on their website and for a very low price they will have the mat, frame and plexi and wire to hang sent to you quickly.  All you need is a screwdriver and a little time.   If you get stuck a bit they have a Youtube video.  I suggest a metal frame and a light blue mat.  The paper is a bit wavy but will flatten out fine with framing.
Gilsoul(1914-2000) left many paintings in his estate, he apparently never sold any of his paintings but since his estate has sent his pieces to auction they have sold like hotcakes.  Almost everything has sold I believe out of about 170 abstract pieces just in the last few months, oil, watercolor, pastel and mixed media pieces, and up to about 00.   I don't recall hyping an artist but this guy is a genius, unlike any abstract artist that I have seen and I have collected for 14+ years.  Check out the website that shows his 170 pieces up for sale or that have been sold, they are so unique, every one of them, unlike most abstract artists who get into a niche that is successful but not as varied as Gilsoul's art is.    He is a master colorist, and his sometimes recognizable figures are often humorous or spell bounding, check more by googling images.   He found great success as a stained glass modernist and now his fame is growing as a newly discovered painter 20 years after his passing.  He also did some interesting sculptures.  His stained glass windows are in famous buildings around the world
